According to an official declaration made during the meeting of Rulers of the Emirates in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, May 14, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, was elected the country’s new President. According to state news agency WAM, the Federal Supreme Council, which consists of the Rulers of each emirate, reached the decision. Following the death of Sheikh Khalifa on Friday, May 13, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the former Crown Prince of the UAE Federation, has become the country’s third president. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, expressed his delight at the decision.

Following the untimely death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a meeting was held at the Mushrif Palace, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, to pick the new president of the United Arab Emirates. According to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was overwhelmingly elected under Article 51 of the Constitution. According to state-run media, foreign ambassadors and leaders from around the world will pay a visit to the UAE’s new President in the coming days.
